Scouting For Girls (O2 Academy, Bournemouth – 4/12/15) ★★★★☆

Having seen Scouting for girls as the support act for Madness, a year ago,( whipping the crowd into a frenzy) I was really excited to see the lads doing their own gig, I wasn’t disappointed.

Contemporary and critical interest in the show was reserved for opener Mike Dignam, a hotly-tipped singer-songwriter from Manchester.

Alone on stage with a kick drum at his foot and a guitar in his grasp, he impressed with a rockier sound than the headliners, getting fans on-board and a sense of humour in promoting his CD. The use of the sole drum as percussion for all of his songs proved repetitive, but he nonetheless displayed enough swagger to indicate he could be one to look out for next year.

Scouting For Girls opened their gig to a full excited crowd at the O2 Academy in Bournemouth with the hit Bad Superman from new album Still Thinking About You .

Roy and the band pulled out every stop to get the audience involved, initiating a singalong to every classic tune and frequently reprising to lap up the electric atmosphere within the Academy.

Great music with hits such as “She’s So Lovely” “Elvis Ain’t Dead” “Heartbeat” “It’s Not About You” “I Wish I Was James Bond” “This Ain’t a Love Song” all had the crowd singing along word perfect.

The best bit, lead singer Roy Stride, ran round the balcony stopping on one side then the other much to the delight of eager fans while singing Elvis Ain’t Dead which was also my favourite song of the evening.

Towards the end of the show, Scouting for Girls put everyone in the festive mood by playing their new Christmas song called Christmas in the Air (Tonight).

Also adding a hint of comedy by the drummer wearing an entertaining Christmas tree outfit.

I give this concert 4 out of 5 stars only because Scouting for Girls didn’t start until 9pm, which meant waiting around for over 2hrs and like all standing room only gigs, you move, you loose.

Also you can check out photos taken of the night right here! – enjoy.
