Pet Shop Boys (The BIC, Bournemouth – 26/02/17) ★★★★★

I never thought I’d ever go to or like a Pet Shop Boys show, but how wrong was I, along with this sell-out Bournemouth crowd it was a gig to remember.

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe stood in front of 2 white disc’s to open the show wearing what can only be described as a metal lamp shade (sorry helmet) on Chris’s head and a halo of metal strips on frontman Neil, the crowd went wild with just them standing there.

I think the tour operators should have made the show a stand up, from the first beat this all seated show turned quickly into a feisty, dancing in your seat mosh pit, this wasn’t lost on Neil who encouraged it and loved it. After a few songs, Inner Sanctum, Opportunities the back curtain came down to reveal a very talented band, with more keyboards, violin, and percussion, there were also the backing singers, all wearing space/alien helmets.

With a few on stage costume changes the show had the right mix of hit songs and audience participation, The Pop Kids, In the Night, Love Is a Bourgeois Construct, New York City Boy, Se A Vida É (That’s The Way Life Is), Love Comes Quickly, Inside a Dream, Winner, Home and Dry, The Enigma.

Classic hits West End Girls (my favourite), It’s a Sin, Go West had the greatest, rapturous applause.

What can I say about the laser light show that accompanied the music apart from brilliant the best I’ve seen for a very long time. This PSB concert was beyond great and was a well-rehearsed gig from start to finish.

What seemed like a short space of time (but in fact it was nearly a 2 hour show) the encore arrived, the band came on wearing helmets with multi coloured circles to match the giant hanging balloons that appeared with everyone singing ,Domino Dancing, Always on My Mind. Everyone went home with happy faces and happy memories.

I give this concert 5 stars.
